Walking Program

Welcome to the Walker's Corner. The purpose of this page is to help you understand the benefits of walking in an atmosphere that is both encouraging and non-intimidating. Our walking program is made up of experienced and inexperienced walkers who have one thing in common — they want to reach a walking goal and have fun while doing it.

New Schedules

We are really excited to work with a new and improved walking program this year at Katy Fit. We have refined schedules for both the full and half marathon groups. These schedules recognize that there is more than one type of walker, and can be modified to be challenging for both inexperienced and experienced walkers. We feel our schedule opens up many avenues of fitness for any type of walker — whether you are walking for health benefits, whether you are walking to improve your fitness, or whether you are trying to achieve a goal of completing a full or half marathon. Utilizing either the half or full marathon schedules can benefit ANYONE!

Purple Group

We are looking forward to having groups train for both the Houston Chevron Marathon and Aramco Half Marathon. Our half marathon program will be extremely beneficial for those walkers looking for a good fitness regimen. It is especially helpful for all first-timers, however we've found that many experienced marathoners look forward to training for the half marathon. Our full marathon program is another option for walkers. While daily training time is a little longer for the full marathon group, it offers a great workout for everyone along with an achievable challenge.

Seminars

All of the seminars at Katy Fit are directed towards both runners AND walkers so we plan for them to be "walker friendly". However this season we also plan to have some "walker only" seminars that will address issues relevant only to walkers.

Discussion Forum

One of the best ways to stay in touch with your fellow members and to keep up with what's happening in our groups is to get plugged into our Discussion Forum. We will utilize this forum to inform members about last minute rainouts or any other related changes. Getting involved in this forum is strongly suggested and it's a lot of fun. Feel free to take a peek to see what's going on and even feel free to log on and participate. Walker specific discussions take place in the Purple Group forum.

Walker's Warm-Up Series

Katy Fit will offer a warm-up series for full marathon walkers doing the 20K, 25K and 30K. Half marathoners will have special 5K and 10K events to participate in. Our annual 21- or 11.5-mile Christmas Cookie Event will be held on December 18 and will include all members of Katy Fit. It is a fun time for all and will be our longest distance walk before the marathon and half marathon. We'll have volunteers staffing the aid and food stations while spreading lots of Holiday Cheer!

Closing Comment

The common thread among all the participants in this program is having a positive experience in stepping out of our comfort zones and discovering the ability that we each have to perform beyond our expectations. The goal of walking a half or full marathon provides the motivation for many to take that step, and the friendship and camaraderie help us all through the challenging times. We look forward to spending the next six months with you as we each set goals that will change our lives.
